The Literary Review
Them
Remember them.
They were as strong as
Solid stone statues;
They died anyway.
They were as smart as
A smart car parking itself;
They died anyway.
They were big and
Brave and blue;
None of that mattered.
Death takes everything even
Though we have nothing to give.
- Dominik Slusarczyk.
Men
Drive desire deep into your heart.
We will start with a
Simple wish for safety.
I do not want to
Dig through dangerous dreams anymore.
It is hard when
Men spend all day trying
To be your best friend.
They say I am
Pretty but I know
They do not care about that.
They only care about that.
What are we to do about the
Mistake that is man?
Maybe it would be best if
We sailed away to a
Different island and
Lived a life of subdued silence.
- Dominik Slusarczyk.
Destiny
Do you have a destiny?
Maybe you were
Born to be brave.
You hate spiders?
I also hate spiders:
I hate them like
They gave me measles.
Maybe you were
Born to bathe.
I believe that would
Be quite nice.
I would like to
Lie in the bath until
I become the water.
- Dominik Slusarczyk.
She
Her mother is
Much better than her father.
She sits in her
Simple room and waits to
Be called to another dinner.
She doesn’t dream of
Being anything amazing but
The world will
Grab her and
Chuck her at rainbows.
One day you will
Know her name is
The same as the
Name you declared dead yesterday.
- Dominik Slusarczyk.
Beaches
Do you like beaches?
They have sand and sea.
You can sit and stare or
Swim and splutter.
Maybe you will
Dream about me.
Maybe you don’t
Care about my hair.
You are perfect.
I am pretending.
- Dominik Slusarczyk.
Snow
Nobody has ever told
Me I am pretty.
I am the last
Man dancing at the dance.
I am always the
First to wake up.
Sometimes it snows.
Snow is pretty.
You can dance in
It as if you too are snow.
- Dominik Slusarczyk.
