Poetry of Issue 9: NUMBER 5 TO DYER

NUMBER 5 TO DYER

Come on now

Got to make that train

Hot summer brings out

People stuff like sweat, perfume, cologne and dirty breath

Who didn’t brush their teeth on this train?

What?

Rumble, tussle

Man snoring

Leaning on the lady

She doesn’t care

Young man bopping to music no one hears but him

I was young once and I still dance

Hope he can dance when he gets my age

My stop coming up.

Dyer Avenue. Last stop.

Got to rush to that bus to Pelham Manor

Factory hours

Minimum wage

Kid in college

Better life for her.

Better life for her.

She’ll be on Number 4 train to Wall Street.
