INFORMATION
Significant details remembered later on: a man made of straw, a car that was broken, a trail that led deeper than they wanted to go. They spoke about distance when they meant the diameter, and dinner when they meant the dawn. Each word they spoke corresponded with a different clue. There was always a woman waiting, but they never was sure what she was waiting for.
INFORMATION
Everyone is up to something in the old house that was even older before the top floor guest moved in. The railroad tracks still ran next to it and each night the 3:45 from Brighton awoke them despite their best intentions. The woman was different then, and so was the dog that slept under stairs. The man pretended that his words meant something that they did not mean. This kept him at the center of the plot long after he was needed.
INFORMATION
Lying next to him in the bed was the corpse of a violin, were five dead starlings, were the stage directions he would be expected to follow even though they were written in the language of the mushrooms. He was never more complete than at that moment when his dreams were broken open and disparate notes of music crawled out.
INFORMATION
Their bodies will become a feast for crocodiles, and only then the subject for a poem. Each time the sun returns a different victim’s body is discovered. The poems created in this way will be brittle and terse, and filled with no more imagination than the reader brings to them. Weakness of the heart never becomes a factor, nor does the shortness of breath the poem is likely to elicit.
INFORMATION
Words that seem to resemble poetry. The distance between the heart and the imagination unable to be measured. Sometimes we are given wings without being able to use them. The explanation a kind of meaning we are never comfortable with. Instead we are only told that we must keep counting until a different kind of excuse arrives.
INFORMATION
At university they studied birdcages and the choreography of the pangolin’s footsteps. At university they used the extra hearts to create a breeze that was expected but never explained. At university the women tried to repeat what the trees said, but instead became obsessed with the voices of the ants. At university they were required to ask for the discipline that they knew was inevitable but only if they asked. At university they were trained to once again become the mirrors they had always been.
