American Sonnet 50

It’s in rain flames! Sorry
sky. Starting motors,
I start to lie. I’ve lost my
mooring. One story

at a time. Such terrific
breakage. The meaning was
the wreckage. No one got
the message. No one even

tried. “Out of the way!”
they cried. “Worst thing I’ve
ever seen!” “No humanity.”
One lady screamed,

“I can’t even talk! In fact,
I can hardly breathe.”
