John Martino

American Sonnet 5

Adderall wipes the fog from the screen.
It brings the gashed Earth to my knees.
I come from a land in between
the excitation and the tease.

The bend is up around the bend.
I make enemies of my friends.
When I say Jump!, you say Please.
I burn the bridge at both ends.

I melt the ice caps with a plastic lighter.
Then rave in your grave, pull an all-nighter.
Mornings I tiptoe up and down your spine.
I dig your birth and drink your whine.

I sleep in your ear, tiny and curled.
I have the best enemies in the world!
