To place a Richard Simmons wig
on a first-century statue of Augustus;
to watch sculpture spring into action
with one-two step aerobic dancing
and hands pointing downwards
like a magician enchanting a carpet,
to the left while stepping back,
right while stepping forth (a simple dance
repeated for hours, half a day
and beyond); to expect him to stop
of his own accord–this
is the definition of insanity.
