Abrasion

Constantly upstaged by the aardvark
in productions of The Dictionary, the aardwolf
left the play and, soon after, the theater, retiring
to a burrow in South Africa. One evening, surrounded

by photographers, he ate termites
with relish, lips smacking loudly. Apparently
confusing him for the hyena, a reporter
asked him if he regretted tackling wildebeests.

The aardwolf stared incredulously. Meanwhile,
the aardvark, groomed for the role
of “anteater with a haircut,”
won an Obie.
