Eve Young

New Religion

He entered the swamp and remained silent.
I saw the children two days ago and two days
later tonight. It is a good feeling to pull out
woollen socks, in any season, for good wear.
A new god, a god who doesn’t know anything
about me, a god whom I miss in movies and
restaurants, a god who doesn’t count my woollen
wheels, who counts silence? It’s me. They will
say to themselves, Christian, bet! Banana juice,
major, and the good thing is that there is no smoke
in the church; the church sleeps like a movie and
the restaurant is very quiet. Tonight, drink hot
coffee, smoke, breathe, I think I’ll buy you break-
fast.
