For Charles Olcott
He’d been a computer engineer
and a good one to judge his resume
but he’d been unemployed for months
and he’d been despondent too
And yesterday they found the body
of Charles James Olcott Jr thirty-
five beneath an oak tree a plastic
bag over his head and his resume
job applications and rejections
nearby
Olcott, Father of three children
formerly owned his own business and
before that worked for R.C.A.
Crocker Citizens Bank
Varian Associates and other firms
in the field of data systems and
programming
The search for employment was
discovered in papers scattered nearby
and in a small briefcase at his side
A graduate of San Francisco State College
with a major in languages and extension courses
in computer engineering at the University of California
Just last week the President gave a talk on the
state of the nation and assured the folks at the
commons club that 5% unemployment was healthy
for the economy
Charles James Olcott Jr was not among those
seen applauding
