Nicho

I visit cemeteries like I’m looking
for an apartment I can afford.
I’m thinking a simple nicho,
second or third tier in a large
building for the dead. I wouldn’t
know the neighbors, but no one
here makes much noise.
The coffin-size spaces higher up
are cheaper, but what would my
few visitors do? Could I even afford
a single-family mausoleum?
If I started paying in quotas now,
still above ground? I’d really like
a small statue – that would put me
on the tour – a woman, tastefully nude,
sitting on my tomb, inclined as if
listening to my every word.
