the first thing we taught the bears
once we discovered that the series
of low-pitched growls & highly animated
scratching were merely syntactical
signals that preceded the substance
of their crudely constructed sentences
were our principles then how to drive
a stick a few quick tricks to putting on
a condom came shortly thereafter the motion
pictures rating system next & before
you could say something offensive
in bear of course they smashed tank
after tank through literal bricks for us
rumbling over splattered bodies shattered
pipes & other scattered collateral debris
in the just cause of freedom
by which they hadn’t learned
we meant private interests but at any rate
ours not theirs those poor dumb bears
