My Drunk Boyfriend Tells Me About the Bridge

“It was 1 a.m., and the fog
squeezed the stars out
of the sky. I walked

from Divisidero Street all
the way across San Francisco,
a pint of Wild Turkey

in my pocket. As I approached
the bridge, I saw the gate
was shut, but I watched

the guards let a dude
with a bike pass through. Yeah,
there really is a manned gate.

So I walked up, and after
a few dumb questions
like where are you going?

I told them, real easy,
To walk across,
and you know what?

they called the cops,
who 5150ed me. Psych
ward at S.F. General

is no joke—my roommate
tried to scratch all the skin
off his face. Lesson

being, if you want to
jump from the Golden
Gate at night, bring a bike.”
